Transfer a Domain to NoBull Networks
Move a domain name to NoBull Networks: unlock it, grab the authorization code, place the transfer order in MyNobull, and approve the transfer email.
Bringing a domain to NoBull Networks puts it in the same MyNobull account as your servers, with one invoice and one place to manage renewals. Transfers follow the standard registrar process, so the steps below apply to almost every common TLD.
Before you start#
- The domain must be at least 60 days old and not have been transferred in the last 60 days. Registrars enforce this lock, not us.
- Make sure the registrant email address works. Approval emails go there, and an expired address stalls the transfer.
- Check the expiry date. Do not start a transfer in the final days before expiry; renew at the current registrar first if it is close.
Step by step#
- Unlock the domain at your current registrar. Look for "registrar lock", "transfer lock", or "domain lock" and turn it off. If WHOIS privacy hides the registrant email, temporarily disable it or confirm the registrar forwards approval mail.
- Get the authorization code. Also called an EPP code, auth code, or transfer key. Your current registrar shows it in the domain settings or emails it to you.
- Order the transfer in MyNobull. Go to Transfer a domain, enter the domain name and the authorization code, and check out. Most TLDs add a year to the registration as part of the transfer, and that year is what you are paying for.
- Approve the transfer. Watch the registrant mailbox for the approval request and confirm it. Some registrars also let you approve from their control panel, which skips the waiting period.
- Wait for completion. Once approved, transfers typically complete within a few hours to five days depending on the losing registrar. The domain then appears under Domains in MyNobull.
Nameservers and DNS#
A transfer moves the registration, not your DNS records. If your DNS is hosted elsewhere (Cloudflare, your old host, your own server), keep those nameservers set and nothing changes for visitors. If your DNS was hosted by the old registrar and disappears when the transfer completes, plan the move first: copy the zone somewhere you control, point the nameservers at it, and let the change settle before starting the transfer.
Renewals and cancellation#
Domains renew automatically to prevent an expiry taking your website and email down. Unlike other services, a domain is not cancelled through a cancellation request: you must explicitly disable auto-renew on the domain in MyNobull if you intend to let it lapse. Domain registrations, transfers, and renewals are not refundable.
Troubleshooting#
- "Domain is locked" or "invalid authorization code"
- The lock is still on, or the code has been regenerated since you copied it. Recheck both at the current registrar and resubmit.
- No approval email arrived
- Check the registrant contact on the current WHOIS record and any privacy forwarding. Update the address at the losing registrar if needed and ask us to resend.
- The losing registrar rejected the transfer
- Registrars may reject during the 60-day lock, for unpaid balances, or if you (or a colleague) declined the request. Their support can tell you which; then open a ticket with us and we will restart it.
